The Honorable George B. Daniels of the Southern District to Swear In New NLA Leadership

daniels-georgeOn March 24, 2016, the Nigerian Lawyers Association (“NLA”) will swear in its newly elected Executive Officers and Board of Directors. The swearing in ceremony will take place at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Ceremonial Court Room, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and will be presided by the Honorable George B. Daniels of the Southern District.

The NLA Executive Officers to be sworn in are Nexus U. Sea, President; Lydia Obasi-Hills, Vice President; Conway Ekpo, Treasurer; Stephanie Ijoma, Secretary; Eunice Adeleke, Public Relations Officer, and Ifiok Nwa, Parliamentarian. The Board of Directors to be sworn in are Olayinka DanSalami, Abayomi Ajaiyeoba, Chisom Ananaba, Mariam Sanni-Adigun, and Shereefat Balogun.

The NLA is a national non-profit professional bar association founded in 1999, whose mission includes improving the administration of justice in the United States and Nigeria, representing the interests of Nigerian and African lawyers and law students across the U.S., and strengthening the legal education pipeline by creating opportunities for law students of color through strategic partnerships with corporations, law firms, non-profit organizations and the public sector.

The ceremony will begin with the introduction of Judge Daniels by Mr. Debo Adegbile, Esq., a partner at WilmerHale and former acting president and director-counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc.; and will follow with a networking reception and panel discussion entitled, “From Foreign Courts to U.S. Jurisprudence: Finding Success in the U.S. as an International Lawyer,” which will feature the Honorable Jude Obasi Nkama – the first Nigerian schooled attorney to be appointed as a judge in New Jersey.

The event will also host a 30 member, student delegation from the Department of Public Law, University of Lagos, Nigeria, who will also be competing at the 2016 National Model United Nations (NMUN).
